Inspire young people to be drivers of positive change and use science and technology as a force for good in the world. As a FIRST volunteer, you are a part of a global community supporting youth in developing their skills and building tomorrow. Together, we're inspiring the next generation of innovators and technology.

In order to make this day a fun and successful event for our teams and kids, we need several volunteers in a variety of roles. Below is a brief description of the roles needed. In this application, you will be asked to give your top two volunteer role preferences.

Judge/Reviewer - These volunteers are critical to the event. After a short introduction session, Judges will use rubrics to evaluate and give helpful feedback to teams on Core Values, Robot Design, and the Innovation Project. Judges also deliberate to determine appropriate awards for the teams. These volunteers are also critical in running the awards ceremony.
Referees - These volunteers are at the center of the robot game action. They study the game rules and missions in advance and work with teams and other referees to accurately score the robot game. Expect longer periods of standing as well as participating in the Awards Ceremony.
Information/Hosts - These volunteers welcome our participants and spectators, as well as help people be where they are supposed to be. In addition, they help check-in teams and serve as ambassadors for the FLL program.
Robot Game Support - These volunteers help the robot game run smoothly. They guide teams through the robot game queue and help keep the event on track.
Judging and Reviewer Support - These volunteers help the judging run smoothly. They guide teams through the judging and review queue, welcome and brief teams before their session, and help keep the process on schedule.
General Event Support - These flexible volunteers are willing to pitch in anywhere. Before the event they will be invited to roles by the Tournament Director to help as needed to keep everything running smoothly.

Our Event Dates for 2023 - 2024

South Dakota State FLL Championship - February 17, 2024 at Augustana University from 7:00am - 4:00pm

This application is your first step to becoming a FIRST LEGO League event volunteer. For many of our roles, registration and training with our FIRST national organization will be required. The FIRST LEGO League Program Coordinator, Gerald Messersmith will send you more information after you complete this application.
