Thank you for your enthusiasm and support for our mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident! We provide the curriculum, supplies and training. Coaches do not need to be runners; they just need to have a desire to help their community's youth unleash their limitless potential!

Health & Safety

The safety of our participants and volunteer coaches continues to be our main priority. Volunteers are expected to comply with all GOTRVT and host site policies. Host site policies vary by site.

Coach Roles

Coach teams are typically comprised of 3-5 volunteers. You will be prompted to select a role below. You can change your selection, if needed, by contacting the GOTRVT Program Team (Anne Lattrell or Stephanie Dorgan). GOTRVT will continue to comply with host site policies regarding volunteer eligibility, including additional background checks.

Head Coach - Must be at least 21 years of age. The Head Coach is expected to attend both of their team's weekly sessions. Additional responsibilities may include making the determination to postpone practice due to inclement weather, communicating with participants' caregivers via email, and coordinating with the coach team to determine how to share lesson facilitation. The responsibilities can be shared among the coach team as well.

Assistant Coach - Must be at least 18 years of age. An Assistant Coach may attend both weekly sessions or may commit to coaching at one weekly session if they are sharing the role with another volunteer. An Assistant Coach assists in lesson facilitation and supports the Head Coach with administrative tasks as needed.

Junior Coach - Volunteers under 18 years of age. A Junior Coach must be at least 2 grades ahead of the GOTR or H&S team that they want to coach with. Policies may vary by site.

Team Helper - This role looks different based on the volunteer's availability and team's needs! A Team Helper may attend sessions regularly or when available.

Substitute Coach - Coach teams are strongly encouraged to identify substitutes to call upon as needed.

Site Liaison- A Site Liaison supports the team with "behind the scenes" logistics like assisting families during registration, identifying and/or reserving a meeting space, collaborating with the coach team for team events, etc. A Site Liaison is not required to be a coach. Your host site's staff or administrators are great options for this role!

Coach Training

At GOTRVT, we are committed to ensuring all coaches are empowered to lead their teams effectively and safely. All new coaches (Head Coaches, Assistant Coaches, Junior Coaches, Team Helpers and Substitutes) are required to participate in GOTRVT's in-person Coach Training. Return coaches have the option to attend in-person coach training. Site Liaisons are encouraged to participate in training, though are not required to do so. We are so appreciative of the time and care you invest in preparing for an impactful, accessible and safe season for all participants on your team!

Coach Training includes:

(1) NCT Part 1 (Girls on the Run International's National Coach Training Part 1). This is the online portion of training. First time GOTRVT coaches will receive on demand, self-paced and interactive modules to complete Girls on the Run International's National Coach Training. Returning coaches may receive select modules as well.

(2) NCT Part 2 (GOTRVT's in-person Coach Training). All first time/new coaches (Head, Assistant, and Team Helpers) are required to attend this, returning coaches have the option to attend in-person training. New Substitute Coaches are highly encouraged to attend. You will RSVP for a training date/location in this registration form.
