Girls on the Run Mission
We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running.
About Emily
Emily loved to run. She and her dad regularly ran together, often around the lake at Hudson Springs Park. On December 28th, 2019, Emily and her father ran there together for the last time, a memory her father will cherish forever. The next day, Emily was taken by the pressures of life and left us all too soon. She touched so many lives in a positive way, including those of us at Girls on the Run.
Emily Havranek served as a Junior Coach with Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio. She loved that she was able to use running to connect to the elementary school girls in her community and believed strongly in our mission to help girls transform into confident young women. She had so much passion for mentoring the girls, knowing personally how difficult adolescence could be.
About the Emily Havranek Memorial Scholarship Fund
Knowing Emily’s passion for the Girls on the Run mission, her parents, Rob and Suzanne, have started the Emily Havranek Memorial Scholarship Fund to support the Junior Coach program and provide scholarship funds for college bound seniors who have served as Junior Coaches. It was their daughter’s dream to inspire young girls to be joyful, healthy and confident and, through this Scholarship Fund, she will leave a lasting impact on the program she cared for and the Junior Coaches that follow in her footsteps by mentoring the next generation.
About Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio (GOTRNEO) began offering programs in Summit County in 2007. It has now grown to serve more than 2,000 girls each year throughout Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage & Summit Counties. Teams are led by volunteer coaches through our research-based curricula which includes dynamic discussions, activities and running games. Over the course of the ten-week program, girls in 3rd-8th grade develop essential skills to help them navigate their worlds and establish a lifetime appreciation for health and fitness.
The Junior Coach program is a fun and rewarding way for 16 to 18-year-old high school girls to get involved with Girls on the Run, grow their leadership skills, and make a difference in the lives of girls throughout their community. Junior Coaches receive credit for service hours while impacting younger girls and being a part of a positive community.
Your gift to the Emily Havranek Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide training, resources, materials and support to Junior Coaches, as well as provide a scholarship fund for college-bound seniors who have served as a Junior Coach with Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio.
