Lifeguard Recertification Training Candidates

The Lifeguard Recertification Training does not require the online blended learning completion prior to the in-person skills session. The in-person skills session takes approximately 9 hours and 15 minutes. Class will be held from 8am-6pm on Sunday's. 

Successful course completion requires participation in all classroom and skill sessions, as well as successful performance in skill and knowledge evaluations.  This course also contains a pre-course session in which you will be required to pass a swimming skills test in order to continue in the class.  In the event if you're unsuccessful in the prerequisites or lifeguard training course, the fee for the class in non-refundable.

Prerequisites

Participants must be 15 years of age on or before the last scheduled day of class.

Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence and Timed Event

The Swim-Tread-Swim Sequence requires that the participant must swim 150 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. Then they will maintain their position and tread, using only their legs, for 2 minutes. After treading for 2 minutes, the participant will swim another 50 yards using the front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both. 

The Timed Event is to be completed within 1 minute and 40 seconds. Starting in the water, the participant will swim out 20 yards and then perform a surface dive (feet-first or head-first) to a depth off 7-10 feet and retrieve a 10-pound brick. Participant will then return to the surface and swim on their back while holding the brick on their chest while returning to their starting point. Participant will then exit the water without using a ladder or stairs. 

Successful Certification Requirements

• Attendance of all in-person skills sessions.
• Active participation during the in-person skills sessions practicing various roles, activities, drills, and scenarios.
• Demonstrate proficiency in all skills.
• Pass the final written exam with a minimum grade of 80%.
• Pass the final skills assessments. 

Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid certifications are valid for 2 years.
