The 2021 Federal CARES Act offers a new tax benefit to individuals who donate up to $300 and to couples who donate up to $600. These amounts qualify as an "above-the-line deduction" for all taxpayers who do not itemize. This means the donor's taxable income will be reduced by the full amount of the contribution. Taxpayers who itemize may deduct up to 100% of cash contributions made to public charities in 2021 from their adjusted gross income (AGI.)
