The little girl in a yellow dress is me. She was sassy, smart and wouldn't take no for an answer. She still doesn't. Three years ago, I found Girls on the Run Philadelphia and jumped at the chance to serve on the Board of Directors. This program is everything I wish I had as a young girl.
I am passionate about Girls on the Run Philadelphia because the program empowers girls to be everything they want to be, supporting them mentally and physically. This giving season I'm giving girls in Philadelphia the gift of confidence.
My Ask
Along with my fellow board members, I'm raising funds to bring the life-changing Girls on the Run program to girls from underserved communities across the city as we match donations up to $25,000 through December 31. How Your Donation Will Make An Impact
Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. Each season over 73% of our girls are able to experience the program through scholarship support. Over 55% of our participants come from families with an annual income of less than $29,000. Your donation will support scholarships for our girls to participate whereas many families only pay $10 for the season (and the normal cost is $200+).
Over the past 12 years, Girls on the Run Philadelphia has inspired over 6,800 girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. Now more than ever we are working hard to make sure EVERY girl who wishes to participate in our sports-based youth development program is able to do so. Through our board match, contributions to my fundraiser will be DOUBLED until we reach $25,000. I hope you will join me in unleashing the limitless potential of girls today!
