This year I am giving girls in Philadelphia the gift of empowerment. Along with my fellow associate board members, I am raising funds to bring the life-changing Girls on the Run program to girls from underserved communities across the city. Now more than ever we are working hard to make sure EVERY girl who wishes to participate in our sports-based youth development program is able to do so.
Running and physical activity is an important part of my life, crucial to not only my physical well being, but mental. Growing up I did not participate in organized sports or come from a family who actively taught the many benefits of living an active lifestyle, so I truly understand and support the necessity for girls and women to have access to a program like GOTR, building confidence through physical activity and teaching them important life skills to maintain a healthy lifestyle. I am thrilled to contribute to the development of Philadelphia's upcoming leaders.
I hope you will join me in unleashing the limitless potential of girls today! Girls on the Run is a transformational physical activity based positive youth development program for girls in 3rd-8th grade. We teach life skills through dynamic lessons and running games. The program culminates with the girls being physically and emotionally prepared to complete a celebratory 5K running event. The goal of the program is to unleash confidence through accomplishment while establishing a lifetime appreciation of health and fitness. Each season over 73% of our girls are able to experience the program through scholarship support. Over 55% of our participants come from families with an annual income of less than $29,000.
