This program is really something special. The GOTR curriculum teaches
young girls to navigate tough subjects like self-confidence, how to
strive for accomplishment, and have generosity through a community
service project. Everyone in the program exercises their body and mind
with the different running drills and lessons. At the end of ten weeks in
either the spring or fall, the girls, running buddies, and community
runners, all participate in a celebratory 5k. For many participants this
is their first 5k but not their last! I was in my early 20s when I ran
my first 5k and I’ve been working to accomplish bigger goals ever since.
Thinking that the drive and curiosity I got from my first 5k can happen
to girls grades 3-8 with the help of this program is what motivates me
to get involved and stay involved! Donations to GOTR are used in many
ways such as sponsoring a girl to participate in the program,
appropriate shoes if needed, curriculum that is passed on to the girls,
and so much more! Any donation you can make sponsoring me while running the Marine Corps Marathon will be so appreciated by girls learning to be the best version of themselves physically and emotionally.
