Western North Carolina is facing unimaginable, community-wide, devastation in the wake of Hurricane Helene. There are so many amazing organizations across these beautiful mountains answering the immediate needs of our area and we are celebrating their dedication and support for Western North Carolina. At GOTR WNC we are looking at our girls and how their physical and emotional health are being challenged in this moment.
Girls on the Run offers a unique path to healing for the girls of WNC. The Girls on the Run program is intentionally designed to help girls step into their confidence, find their strengths, recognize and manage emotions, and build their resiliency - all while engaging in healthy movement. This program is designed to support girls in the everyday challenges of growing up but also gives a safe space for girls to work through traumatic events.
We are already working to identify how to best serve our girls in this critical time. GOTR WNC has worked diligently to re-establish programing across Western North Carolina after a 2-year hiatus during the pandemic. Girls across Western North Carolina are once again facing uncertainty, separation from their schools and friends, and stress that can feel impossible to manage. We need YOUR help to ensure our council can continue forward in Western North Carolina and keep our promise that no girl is turned away from the program due to her family finances.
We anticipate a higher need for shoes, clothing, and scholarships to support participation at a time these girls need it most, along with additional support for our volunteer coaches. Your support will allow GOTR WNC to show up fully for the girls in our beloved mountains.
