As a woman who is passionate about female health and well-being and especially as a mom to two young daughters, Girls on the Run (GOTR) is the organization I wish I had access to growing up. Why? Because the GOTR mission is rooted in empowering girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident through a curriculum that creatively combines physical activity with crucial life skills. In an age when girls face unprecedented challenges to their mental, emotional, and physical health, GOTR offers a supportive environment that nurtures self-esteem, resilience, and healthy habits.
This is especially important because according to the CDC, three in five girls felt consistently sad or hopeless in 2021, the highest level reported in at least a decade. Additionally, studies show that over 40% of girls between ages 10 and 17 report low self-esteem, and only one in five girls get the recommended level of daily exercise.
These stats may be scary but we have the power to change the narrative through GOTR. In fact, participation in Girls on the Run has proven benefits: 97% of girls report that they learn critical skills to handle life’s ups and downs, and over 85% experience improved physical fitness.
By fostering a sense of community and empowering girls to set and achieve goals, GOTR not only enhances physical health but also instills a lasting sense of self-worth and emotional strength, providing tools that last a lifetime.
