I participated Girls on the Run when I was in Middle school and High school and it was pretty much the organization that got me started as a runner and particularly, running with other females. I found it to be super empowering and fulfilling at a time in my life where my personal and bodily confidence was very low--running since then, has continued to shape my mental and physical well-being.
I first wanted to start running competitively when I was dealign with an intense eating disorder in high school, so I remember my mom telling me until I got better, I couldn't run to risk losing any more weight. Running then became kind of a light at the end of the tunnel for me --something that represented a part of myself that was healthy and happy enough to engage in such a mindful physical activity for my well-ebing, not my detriment.
Girls on the Run really building a community for young women that, as corny as it sounds, teaches them the limitless capabilities of their bodies and minds. This money will go to help other girls, like me, learn how running can help change their outlooks on themselves and their futures.
